Superstar Celine Dion tapes her first full-length TV interview, after the October birth of her twin sons, with Oprah Winfrey next Wednesday. The show airs Feb. 21 and serves as a valuable teaser for her upcoming Caesars Palace shows that start a three-year Colosseum residency March 15.
We can confirm that Celine has started rehearsals from her Florida home for the show dedicated to the music of Hollywood movies. She travels here Feb. 22 to join the full orchestra and dancers for the final three weeks of rehearsals.
Oprah has loaded her final February sweeps shows of her daytime TV talk show before moving on to her Oprah Network, with superstars including all five hosts of The View, Roseanne Barr and Jennifer Hudson.
*Sports Illustrated executives confirmed yesterday our earlier story of the 72-hour rundown of events here in Las Vegas that follow next week’s news of the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover girl. Mayor Oscar Goodman will welcome 20 models upon arrival next Wednesday. Next Thursday, The Strip will be temporarily renamed Swimsuit Boulevard, with street signs, in a ceremony outside Diablo’s at the Monte Carlo.
S.I. swimsuit parties will be hosted at Vanity at the Hard Rock Hotel, where the models will be headquartered, Pure at Caesars Palace and LAX at the Luxor. In all, there will be more than a dozen events, including dinner at STK at The Cosmopolitan and entertainment by Monte Carlo headliners Jabbawockeez and Imperial Palace headliners Human Nature.
*Monte Carlo execs made it official today that Blue Man Group moves there to its 1,200-seat theater next fall from its current 1,760-seat theater in The Venetian. BMG will continue to perform at The Venetian until its fall 2012 move.
*For the second year, Fremont Street Experience will host the opening ceremony of the 2011 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament tonight. There will be a Parade of Nations and flag presentation featuring the 16 countries taking part in the 44 games being played this weekend at Sam Boyd Stadium. Mayor Oscar will act as emcee, and the U2 tribute band Vegas U 2 will entertain players from Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Guyana, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, United States, Uruguay and Wales. NBC Sports is airing 8 hours of live coverage of the rugby tournament, the first time live coverage is being broadcast in the U.S.
*Last Friday’s kickoff for Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour was so successful, with more than 500 books donated from fans, that he’ll do it again at the Las Vegas Wranglers game at The Orleans Arena tomorrow.
Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger dined at Japonais at The Mirage and also turned up at nightlife queen Tiffany Masters’ model beauty party at Gold Lounge at Aria, where Defending the Caveman at Harrah’s star Kevin Burke was at an adjoining booth. Fun part was when Chad insisted on having a photo with yours truly! Ellis Hobbs of the Philadelphia Eagles attended Terry Fator’s show at The Mirage last night.
For six years, The Comedy Club at the Riviera was voted Best in Las Vegas, but it recently shut its doors. Tonight, it reopens with Sandy Hackett and a new lineup of comedy headliners. Greg Proops headlines at The Playboy Comedy Lounge at the Palms through Sunday. The new Cafe Nikki launches its South Beach Happy Hour at the Tropicana ahead of the highly anticipated Nikki Beach dayclub opening this spring.
Will Andy Roddick’s gorgeous wife Brooklyn Decker repeat as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover girl?
