More arts and entertainment
Music festivals in the desert are so passé: Coachella organizer Goldenvoice announced Tuesday that it's taking the acclaimed desert music and arts festival to the sea with a new concert cruise event dubbed the S.S. Coachella. (And don't worry, water haters; 2013's already-sold-out Indio, California, weekends are still happening as scheduled.)
The inaugural voyage will feature two separate cruises,on which identical lineups of popular Coachella artists will perform. Both cruises leave from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with the first headed to the Bahamas December 16–19 and the second going to Jamaica December 19-23.
Headlining the cruise will be Brit-pop icons Pulp, who also played April's Coachella festival. Other artists on the cruise bill: Hot Chip, Yeasayer, Girl Talk, Sleigh Bells, Warpaint and more.
The S.S. Coachella will take place aboard the luxury cruise liner Celebrity Silhouette, whose amenities include 12 restaurants, nine bars and a number of live music venues, in addition to traditional cruise accoutrements like pools and spas.
Reservations for the trip can be made beginning this Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m. with prices ranging from $500 per person for a four-person inside stateroom to $1,500 per person for a two-person “Sunset Veranda Stateroom.”
If you’re thinking about going, be sure to read the fine print—an extra $200 per person is added on at checkout to cover taxes, gratuity and booking fees. Other costs not included in the reservation? Air and ground transportation, beverages like alcohol, soda and bottled water, on-shore activities, medical services, spa services and specialty dining.
As with the Indio festival, fans will have the opportunity to pay for the festival over several installments. More details, including departure times and reservation and payment info, can be found at S.S.Coachella.com.
