Great beer meets a great barrel at the Freakin’ Frog
It’s less than 24 hours after Sunday night’s cask beer tasting at the Freakin’ Frog, and I am still feeling the after-effects—not that I mind in the slightest. Sunday’s tasting, the third in Freakin’ Frog’s cask beer series, featured Saison d’Erpe Mere from Brouwerjj de Glazen Toren in Belgium. Weekend Hangover: Checking out the new Sierra Gold
Desert Shores is my neighborhood, and we could use a better neighborhood bar. I was hopeful I’d find it upon my first visit to the brand new Sierra Gold at the corner of Buffalo and Smoke Ranch, and for good reason: Though it’s been closed for years, this site was the former home of Becker’s Steakhouse, for a short time an odd but comfortable neighborhood gem with an old-school Vegas feel. For some, wine is an acquired taste. It takes time and a lot of sampling to find what you really like, which is why wine tastings are a great way to introduce your palate to a variety of new flavors. But don’t forget that food can play a big part in wine drinking. The correct pairing can bring out a whole new character in a wine and might help land it on your list of favorites. The Capital Grille at ... Read more...

Tandem is tops in the Valley
I’m currently running down a list of our Valley’s locally bottled beer, as there is quite a strong selection at the moment. Joseph James, Big Dog’s and Tenaya Creek are giving beer lovers a serious reason to maybe skip that six-pack of Deschutes, Stone or even Dogfish Head. Let me just get this out of the way: Our local beer is good. Very good. I have yet to try one that disappointed. But tops on my list is a product ... Read more...

Postrio’s nod to Don Quixote makes for a perfect summertime drink
When you think of summer, odds are thoughts of legendary literary character Don Quixote don’t spring to mind. But after trying a Distorted Chivalry at the Venetian’s Postrio, that might ...
