Revolution reflects spirit of the festival

Despite the Killers not showing for their rumored appearance in the VIP section, good times were had by all at the CineVegas party at The Beatles Revolution Lounge on Wednesday night. The party had more of a laid-back feel than some of the other CineVegas soirees. Trevor Groth, artistic director for the festival, opted for jeans and a green plastic CineVegas visor.

The party felt more like a rock show as up-and-coming band Low vs. Diamond took the stage. Sporting some awesome hairdos, they epitomized the Indie music vibe. After the band did their set and scampered off to the VIP section, the stage morphed into a dance floor. The DJ took over and played a mix of mostly rock music from ‘70s music to today’s Top 40 tunes. Never have I heard so many men singing along to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone.” The crowd was really into the music, as evidenced by the packed dance floor and frequent sing-a-longs.

Among those in attendance was Carlos Ramirez, the twin brother of Efren Ramirez, who played Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite. Luckily a friend alerted me to his real name so I didn’t have to shout, “Hey Pedro, can I get a picture?” Aside from a noise level that made conversation difficult and a few hiccups with the drink service, the party was fun. The music and setting made up for soggy beer wrappers. Parts of the walls were video screens featuring Pucci-like prints and artsy lettering of the drink sponsors and the CineVegas logo. The surroundings perfectly complimented the creative spirit of CineVegas.
