That autograph will cost you
By Rick Lax
Author's note.
Two years ago I wrote an awesome book called Lawyer Boy. Some guy is selling a signed copy on Amazon.com right now… for $132.00.
Folks, for that kind of money, I’ll write you a personalized Lawyer Boy copy by hand, in your favorite color ink.
Check out the lovely description the book re-seller posted:
“This copy is very prominently, beautifully, and hilariously signed and inscribed in black marker on the title page by the author: Thanks for picking my book up! Rick Lax. He underlined each and every word, and crossed out his printed name. There's more: If you need a good lawyer, [he then thoughtfully provides his personal information. Please view the accompanying scan to see it verbatim]. Then, on the opposite page, he adds a funny caveat: But wait til I pass the bar!* Lax also prominently and beautifully signed in black marker his author photograph on the DJ back flap and added a magician's moustache and goatee to his portrait. This title is now highly collectible. This is the best signed copy we have ever found, is the only such signed and inscribed copy available online, and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare, one-of-a-kind signed copy.”
I love how this guy calling the mustache I’d drawn onto my photo a “magician’s mustache.” Basically, I defaced the book and the guy turned it into a positive. Perhaps I should hire him as a publicist for my upcoming Vegas book…
*I’ve since passed the bar.

....... On the other hand if your new book ends up on the NYT best seller list your first book might well become a real collectable.

Rysco, Did I personally deface yours? I remember that for a lot of people, I painstakingly defaced individual pages...crossed words out...giant X's...that sorta thing. Put that sucker on ebay and make us rich!

you should saturate the market for autographed copies of Lawyerboy, selling them at 131.99

So... curious readers are dying to know how you found your own book on Amazon. Fill us in! Did you Google yourself? Did you Amazon (let's pretend it's a verb) yourself?

PD,
Yes and yes. I went to Amazon to check on sales rank, and then saw that there was a copy being sold for $132. So I clicked on it. I was surprised to see the effort the seller put forward. I assume it was just put up with a "what the hell?" attitude, but this company is really trying to make a sale!

Wow! I guess an inappropriate response would be "you are welcome in advance?...

I wouldn't call PD's guess bold; PD must've known the answer before asking....
