Dear Law School: No soup for you!

By Rick Lax

My first-year law school books. JUST my first-year books.

Two years ago I graduated from the fantastic DePaul University College of Law. Right after I did, the school started hitting me up for donations.

Usually I delete emails from the alumni department, but yesterday I got an email with the subject line, “Breaking News for Recent Grads” So I opened it.

Here was the “Breaking News”: “Because you are a 2005 to 2009 grad of DePaul, you are eligible for a special introductory membership in the President's Club for $250.”

According to the email, President’s Club membership gets me three things, the third of which is, “Meaningful opportunities to give back.” So for $250, I can buy the right to give more money.

If that’s “Breaking News” then this blog post is Gone With The Wind.

I hope DePaul’s alumni department never actually disseminates breaking news by email, cause if they do, it ain’t getting read.

Fool me once, DePaul alumni dept…

P.S., I hope that one day I make enough money to give back to the law school, but right now I’ll leave that to my classmates who nabbed the six-figure jobs before the economy turned south.

Fool Me Once......hmm sounds like a great title for a book. What do you think?

Agreed. Yeah, my plan is to use that in stories and conversation as much as possible over the next few months, so then, when the book comes out, everybody will say, "Why did it take so long for a book to come out with that title?"

BTW, for the rest of you: I'm working on a book right now about Las Vegas, and it's called FOOL ME ONCE, and it'll be out late 2010 or early 2011. Stay tuned. :)

university of michigan won't stop hitting me up for money. meanwhile they've done basically nothing to help me get work. not that i'd necessarily donate if they had, but they've made absolutely sure i don't.

Hey Jubilee, That's so funny that you mention UofM cause I went to undergrad there and they practically NEVER hit me up for donations. Hmmm...they must know that I'm a writer and that you're a big-shot Jubilee showgirl raking in the big bucks. I know y'all are LOADED. ;)

Joking aside, are you a Jubilee dancer?
