Hilton take might have been $500,000

According to one published report, a pair of thieves who robbed the Las Vegas Hilton this morning just after 6 a.m. might have made of with $500,000. KLAS Channel 8 has reported that figure, citing unnamed sources, but hotel spokesman Ira David Sternberg could not confirm the amount, only that the crime did take place this morning. “We’re deferring all official word on this to Metro,” Sternberg said. An update was expected later today. The sports book was closed early ... Read more...

How’d we get into this economic boondoggle? A primer to explain

More than 2,500 miles from Wall Street, the economic crisis can feel very far away in Las Vegas. Goodman: Governor decision will be made after November elections

You know, mayor of Las Vegas. I asked the martini-wielding Goodman if he had set a timetable for whether he would run for governor of Nevada. There ... Read more...

Welcome to the Fabulous Las Vegas sign — enjoy the park

With the installation of a parking lot across from the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, Clark County has, finally, taken a step to prevent Viva Splat Vegas. Two years ago I wrote a column for the Las Vegas Sun in which I spoke to John Woodrum about the seemingly endless stream of tourists who snap and pose for photos beneath the iconic sign. For more than 30 years Woodrum had a curbside seat (if there were a curb) for ... Read more...
