Betting on Obama, literally

With Barack Obama ready to take the Oval Office tomorrow as the 44th President of the United States, the world is preparing to watch history in the making. A record audience is expected to tune into the inauguration, and online gambling sites are giving people the chance to cash in on the historic event.
Gambling on politics is illegal in Nevada, but offshore sites like Paddy Power and Betsson are providing bettors with wagers that range from the color of Obama’s tie to what he will say first after getting sworn in as President.
“Change has come” brings in 8-to-1 odds, while the more controversial and highly unlikely “Always bet on black!” has odds at 500-to-1.
How about the first celebrity shown in the crowd?
Oprah (7-to-4) or Bruce Springsteen (6-to-1) seem logical choices, but for the risky gambler back-from-the-brink-of-insanity Britney Spears or former presidential candidate Paris Hilton might make more appealing bets with the higher payouts from 33-to-1 odds.
Will Obama say the word “banana” in his inaugural speech? Probably not. But if he does, it will produce a big payday for somebody with odds at 800-to-1. What about the odds of getting someone in the front row to throw a banana on stage during the address?
Here’s a list of some of the online wagers available for people who want to add a little extra excitement to their inauguration viewing:
