CSI: The Experience brings crime solving to the Las Vegas Strip
A young waitress has been found dead in an alley behind a gritty Las Vegas motel, sprawled out beneath an overflowing dumpster. A tire tread streaks across her abdomen and nearby is a picture of her, ripped in half. No other injuries are visible. Scattered among the trash are a handbag and a cell phone. It’s up to you to figure out the who, the why and the how. CSI is returning to its Las Vegas roots with CSI: The ... Read more...

Will the Juice be on the loose?
Today is O.J. Simpson’s birthday and if he gets his wish, the Juice may soon be on the loose. The former football star is in lock-up in Lovelock following his conviction on 12 charges stemming from a September, 2007 run-in with two memorabilia dealers in a Palace Station hotel room. He was sentenced on Oct. 3 to a maximum 33 years in prison with no chance of parole for nine years. The Heisman Trophy winner and his co-accused, Clarence “C.J.” ... Read more...

“The historical moment”: Inside Michael Jackson’s memorial
“It was eerily quiet,” said Zach Moss of the scene at the Staples Center during Michael Jackson’s memorial service yesterday. “You clapped, you cheered maybe, but nobody spoke.” “To be in any stadium and it’s completely quiet…” the recent Las Vegas transplant trailed off. “You’re in the Staples Center where the Lakers play and it’s always jumping up and down and crazy and fun. To be in there completely quiet, it was just…it was amazing.” Moss was one of the ... Read more...

Mildly NJoyable: electronic cigarettes
To enjoy, or not to “NJoy”? That is the question. You may have heard about the electronic cigarette phenomenon. Well, one product in particular, NPro’s NJoy, promises “All the pleasures of smoking without all the problems.” But what are these “problems” that NJoy promises to solve? Besides the obvious downer that smoking cigarettes can cause cancer, it seems the primary problem would be the inability to get a nicotine fix whenever and wherever, even when slapping on patches and chewing ... It’s you snooze you lose at WSOP’s Main Event
Several of the big names in poker will not even get the chance to vie for the top prize in this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event. They won’t even get to sit down at the table. Due to the large turnout for this annual event, the tournament’s “Day 1” is split into several sessions to accommodate the number of dealers and seats available at the Rio where the WSOP is held. This year, one of those days fell ... Read more...

Closing the book on the Reading Room
I’ve written more than one premature obit for the Reading Room, the independent bookstore snuggled into a mop closet in Mandalay Place—it’s been more than a year since word first got out that the store would close. As the months passed and it stayed open, some of us crossed our fingers that the reprieve would be indefinite. But on Thursday Reading Room employees confirmed the sad finality: July 17 will be the store’s last day, its space to be occupied ... Read more...

Vegas lands in No. 3 spot on sweatiest cities list
Las Vegas is known for its glittering lights, expansive entertainment and luxurious casinos. According to deodorant maker Old Spice, it’s also making a name for itself in pit stains. An annual study from Old Spice has ranked Las Vegas the No. 3 sweatiest city in the country, trailing only Phoenix and San Antonio, Texas. After eight years of conducting the study, Old Spice has dubbed Phoenix as the all-time “Undisputed Sweatiest City.” In earning the title, the surveyors said Phoenix’s ... Read more...
