E! report: In wake of arrest, Steve Wynn boots nightclub operator Cy Waits

E! Online is reporting that Cy Waits’ Friday-night arrest with girlfriend Paris Hilton on the Strip has cost him his job as one of Steve Wynn’s nightclub operators. “In a span of one week, Cy Waits has gone from hero to zero,” the E! Online story artfully reports. The site drew its information from “multiple sources” and quotes one Las Vegas insider as saying, “Wynn has a zero-tolerance policy with their club execs when it comes to brushes with the ... B.B. King ready to sit — and play — for a spell at his club at Mirage

A month ago, some ne’er-do-well made off with B.B. King’s Lucille. It was his 15th Lucille, actually. The 15th in the line of his 16 Gibson electric guitars. The instrument is legendarily named for a woman over whom two men were fighting during one of King’s early shows, in 1949, in a blues club in Twist, Ark. According to B.B. King lore, the two men tumbled across the floor of the club, knocking over a barrel half-filled with kerosene and ... Read more...

Cooling trend: Forbes survey has Las Vegas (with New York) as the country’s hippest city

For years the inhabitant of the bottom of good lists and the top of bad lists, Las Vegas today sits stylishly atop a good list. Forbes magazine has listed Las Vegas as the No. 1 coolest city in the United States. Las Vegas also is coming off its hottest month ever, but this has nothing to do with temperature. Sharing the top spot is New York. Forbes compiled the list by retraining the Harris polling association, which asked 2,104 adults ... Read more...

Feeling the sting, still, as the Scorpions wind down a rockin’ career at the T&M

The concert story that is my favorite, and it is my favorite by a wide measure, is of a Scorpions concert at Cal-Expo Amphitheater in Sacramento. It was 1984. An online list of all Scorpions’ concerts lists the date as April 21. I gulp as I consider that demarcation of time. This was my senior year of high school, and to catch this monumental event, a merry ship of fools rumbled from Chico to Sacramento in such vehicles as an ... Read more...

How much Elvis is too much Elvis? Those who license his music and image seem destined to find the answer. A veritable glut of Elvis music – like, all of it – hits the market in October with the release of The Complete Elvis Presley Masters. This box set is refreshingly simple in its marketing strategy: It is every Elvis recording, digitally remastered and presented in chronological order, from 1954 through 1974. This veritable Elvis audio buffet represents more than ... Read more...

Mob Experience preview gives visitors a taste of technology, and an actual Lansky

What’s interesting about Meyer Lansky II is he’s just a regular dude. That is, he’s a regular dude who remains such even as his grandfather was one of the more prominent figures in the history of organized crime. The exceedingly moderate Lansky II met the Las Vegas media, formally, for the first time Monday afternoon as the featured attraction in the opening of the Las Vegas Mob Experience Preview Center at Tropicana. As organizers helped explain to the uninitiated, the ... Read more...
