More non-music news from The Killers: Shows in Asia canceled

By John Katsilometes

The Killers.

Say this for The Killers, even when they’re not making music, they’re making news.

Just days after reports surfaced that the band is planning an open-ended hiatus after its current world tour ends in Australia, announced today that their scheduled performances in Asia have been canceled.

From the band’s Web site, a statement posted Thursday:

“It is with great regret that The Killers have been forced to cancel their upcoming appearances in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, Manila, Tokyo and Seoul due to unforeseen circumstances involving a serious illness of a close family member. The band deeply apologizes to their fans and hopes to reschedule their shows in these cities soon, we hope you understand and respect our privacy at this difficult time. At this time, the band's Australian appearances remain scheduled as planned.”

An e-mail message sent to the band’s publicist, seeking further comment, has not yet been answered. Guitarist Dave Keuning and drummer Ronnie Vannucci have been quoted as saying the band plans to take an extended break, deemed normal procedure by spokeswoman Jen Appel of Press Here Publicity, after performing Feb. 21 at The Nursery at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.
