Brody Dolyniuk makes the call, and artists respond for Newtown benefit show at Boulder Station

The day after the mass shootings that killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Brody Dolyniuk posted a note on Facebook to his friends in the entertainment scene.

The response was nearly overwhelming.

Today, Dolyniuk has assembled an ambitious and swiftly organized benefit concert at Boulder Station to raise money for the families of the victims of that tragedy. The show is set for 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at Railhead at Boulder Station and is titled “Our Town for Newtown.”

The admission price is a $10 donation at the door, and additional donations will be accepted in the showroom or United Way website created for the victims (go to Newtown.uwwesternct.org to donate). All money raised will be sent to the Maddux Foundation, founded by Las Vegans Greg and Kathy Maddux, and directed to the United Way’s Newtown account.

Dolyniuk’s open request for help has drawn some of the top bands and artists in Las Vegas, including the popular classic-rock cover band he founded in 1997, Yellow Brick Road. In 2011 Dolyniuk moved to Lake Forest, Calif., but remains a popular and highly regarded artist by musicians and fans of live music in Las Vegas. In August, he fronted the Symphonic Rock Show at Reynolds Hall, which drew an audience of 2,000.

The “Our Town” lineup as it stands today for what is expected to be a four-hour show is Beatles tribute band the Fab, the Lon Bronson All-Star Band, Rick Duarte of Strung Out Sessions, Paul Shortino of Quiet Riot and Rough Cutt, the Bella Electric Strings violin ensemble, Zowie Bowie, Elisa Furr of iCandy at Saxe Theater, Brent Muscat of Faster Pussycat and Sin City Sinners, Michael Cavanaugh of “Movin’ Out” on Broadway and Led Zeppelin tribute Zeppelin USA.

As Dolyniuk said in the early stages of organizing the show, “We had to strike while the iron is hot because, sadly, this will become old news to the rest of the world before too long. But whatever I can do for those families, even if it is one ounce for one day, I will do.”
