Strip scribbles and weekend entertainment highlights

*Paris Hilton wasn’t the only pop princess in Vegas this week to launch a line of fashion footwear for the fall: Now we’ve learned that the Duchess herself is following along in her footsteps! Fergie is the newest footwear fashionista, stepping into the high-heel headlines when she debuted her line at a private, exclusive showing in the World Trade Center downtown.
*Our hometown group of wild and crazy former showgirls who are known as The Deadly Seven make their Hollywood debut tomorrow at Safari Sam's on Sunset. These are "bad, bad girls" because they were booked to play The Whisky there a few months back, but one of the beauties wound up in jail. Now that all seven crazy band members are free, they’re set to shock Tinseltown with their bizarre punk appearance, complete with hardly-there torn underwear and even blood, if they wind up fighting amongst themselves or with the audience!
*Master magician Lance Burton, from the Monte Carlo, is a big supporter of the Shriners and their work for very ill children. Next Sunday, Aug. 10, he’s gathered up a group of his friends to donate their time to perform at a special fundraiser. Lance will host and perform at the show. Tickets are in the $25 range and all the money will go to the Shriners. To add your support, please call 702-382-5554 for tickets and then enjoy fellow magicians Jeff McBride, Fielding West, Stan Allen, Jeff Hobson, Jason Byrne and sexy songstress Gabriela Versace, who in real life is Lance’s steady girlfriend. The funds raised by the all-star lineup will go toward transportation costs to ensure that 1,400 children who are clients of our local Shrine Temple get specialized treatment at out-of-state hospitals -- and that those with real medical distress reach the Shriner Hospital in Los Angeles. It takes $2 million a day for Shriners International to run its 22 hospitals.
*Basketball wonder PJ Brown, of the Boston Celtics, watched Morris Day and The Time perform at the Flamingo and then relaxed at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in the Palazzo ... Over at the Blush boutique nightclub in the Wynn, Sacramento Kings b-ball star Maurice Taylor decided the outdoor patio was perfect for he and his wife to enjoy the sweet sounds coming from inside the club.
*Razor-sharp caustic comedy king Don Rickles was due to have played the Orleans this weekend, but a freak, wretched back injury has put a stop to those plans. He went to pick something up off the floor and wrenched out his back. Doctors told him it would take several weeks to heal, so he had to cancel out this Vegas gig. Since it was so last-minute, the Orleans had no time to book a replacement star and run a new ad campaign, so the theater will be dark for the next 72 hours. Don says he’ll be well enough for next year’s upcoming dates at the Orleans because he’ll do no more light-lifting!
*In the meantime, we’ll do the heavy stuff: Without provocative putdowns or sarcastic savagery, Luxe Life has the listing of all the stars who did make it -- without apparent injury -- into town for their shows in what we’ve wrapped up (without painkillers) and called the ROYAL ROBIN RUNDOWN:
Friday night:
*Beloved entertainer and Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton, is performing at MGM Grand through Wednesday of next week. You’re guaranteed all those yesteryear hits in the classic tuxedo-style of true entertainment -- the way Vegas used to do it! Other top-notch golden throats crooning the swooning songs are good friends Clint Holmes, singing at least a couple of hits from his biographical new musical up at the Suncoast through Sunday evening. Also, Jack Jones is playing three nights of shows at South Point.
*Funnyman George Lopez brings his unique style of humor to the Hilton for two nights of hysterical comedy, complete with some biting pot-shots, while kingly TV personality Kevin James has them laughing in the aisles for his two nights at the Mirage.
*For now, it’s the last two days of super-soul jazzy R&B masters, Morris Day & The Time, at the Flamingo as the hotel gets ready to welcome Donny and Marie Osmond next month.
*Rockers are everywhere tonight – and, as noted above, the Crue Fest, with Motley Crue, Buckcherry and Papa Roach, makes the loudest noise on earth at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Nearby, in Mandalay’s House of Blues theater, there’s a 5 p.m. start for the long playbill of Cavalera Conspiracy, with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Throwdown, Bury Your Dead and Incite, all going on stage at different intervals through the night. Over at the Hard Rock, there’s another double-header, with stealth groove band Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, and The Expendables surfing rock and reggae sounds at the Joint, while blues guitarist Jonny Lang -- who has been Grammy-nominated twice for his instrumental genius -- performs poolside.
*On the party scene, you’ll find reality TV star and actress Tori Spelling hosting a party at new club, Christian Audigier, at TI to celebrate her return as "Donna Martin" to the new series of 90210 shows. Over at LAX, gorgeous blond actress and regular Vegas visitor Jaime Pressly celebrates her birthday with a wild weekend at the Luxor. One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush should do a midnight walk down the red carpet at Tao in the Venetian for her celebration, while Playmate Nicole Narain hosts her bash at Prive nightclub in Planet Hollywood.
Saturday:
*Rocker Rod Stewart, who has found success all over again with his renderings of old standards, shrugs off his legal fights with the Rio for a star turn at the MGM Grand. He’ll perform everything from "Maggie May" to "Hot Legs" and hopefully "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." His special guest and opening act is Bryan Adams.
*There’s a powerhouse lineup for the Regeneration Tour with the Human League, Belinda Carlisle, Flock of Seagulls, ABC and Naked Eyes at the Planet Hollywood Theater for Performing Arts.
*Another world title boxing clash, staged by Top Rank for HBO's Boxing After Dark, makes the action in the ring set up at the Pearl in the Palms for the showdown between boxers Zab Judah and Joshua Clottey.
*For jazz fans, Craig Chaquico makes smooth, silky sounds at Santa Fe Station and the six-man rock/country sounds of the Marshall Tucker Band kicks it up a notch at Sunset Station. Rockers have a 'silly summer takeover' for an afternoon session at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay with Hot Styles, V.I.C , Karina Pasian and Mishon while the Little River Band runs deep at the Club in the Cannery.
*It’s a husband and wife star lineup with Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo down at Primm Valley Casino's Star of the Desert arena.
*Boxing ring action and mixed martial arts pow-punches in the Octagon still not enough for you? Well then head to the Hard Rock Hotel for an afternoon session of mayhem with World Extreme Cagefighting matchups! Three world champions will be defending their titles.
*The 12-hour Tao Beach party at the Venetian features a live fashion show presentation by Marciano for Sunset Sessions. Wonder if the designer will have his new, voluptuous, Anna Nicole Smith look-alike model on display?
Check back Monday:
We’ll have the full backstage report from our front-row visit to Motley Crue ... And get ready for the arrival of the crazy wild drivers of the Gumball 3000 rally before they head off to North Korea, of all places, on a peace mission with Travis Barker, our friend and tattooed drummer, taking the lead. Later in the week, more secrets about Believe from Criss Angel and his family: Frightening and scary dangers will stay in the Cirque show at the Luxor despite the promise he made to mom!
