Triple-8s a wedding jackpot in Vegas

By Robin Leach

In Vegas, we used to think 777 was our lucky number, but this year 888 is proving a bonanza -- at a time our troubled economy really needs a boost.

Hundreds of romantics are invading Sin City starting to ready for their weddings and marriage vow renewals at chapels downtown and up and down the Strip. “Definitely busier than any other day this year except maybe Valentines will just beat it out by a little” said one restaurateur who is booked solid almost around the clock with wedding parties. “It’s a date that all superstitions point to as good fortune -- especially for newlyweds.”

The number 8 is considered “very good luck” in the Chinese culture. Tipped on its side 8 becomes infinity -– and thus a positive omen for those tying the knot or saying “I do” all over again. Vegas HD TV is even shooting over 100 of the best, the most outrageous and the wildest and wackiest weddings at different chapels during the 24-hour period for an upcoming world-syndicated television special. Crews with 12 hi-def cameras in different chapels will capture the weddings at 10-minute staggered intervals.

Even the BOA Steakhouse and Sushi Roku restaurants in the Forum Shops at Caesars have created special eight-course menus to celebrate the fortuitous date. The “Infinite Experience” meals include a $75 wine pairing option. At BOA, its Blue Fin Tuna Carpaccio, Truffle Nachos, Classic Caesars, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Grilled Jumbo Prawns, roasted crispy duck, American Kobe Fillet on mushroom ragout and a handcrafted artisan dessert specialties. Next door at Sushi Roku its Yellowtail sashimi, Tuna Carpaccio, Sea Bass, Stone Frill Kobe Beef, Tuna, Yellowtail, Japanese Snapper, Salmon, Eel, O’Toro, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado eel, rainbow, California, Toro and Jalapeno sushi – all served family style with one piece per person capped off with a dessert sampler! So yummy it might just pay to get married!
