Strip Scribbles: Star sightings, weekend event rundown

By Robin Leach

* It wasn't Whitney! R&B singer Bobby Brown enjoyed a late midnight dinner with three friends at Tao Asian Bistro at the Venetian. They dined on Kobe beef satay and lobster wontons at a table under the restaurant's 20-foot-tall Buddha.

* Star Surveillance: Actor Anthony Anderson, who starred in the hit TV show "Law & Order," and in the blockbuster movie, "Transformers," celebrated an early 38th birthday with friends at Tryst nightclub in the Wynn Las Vegas. Also partying there was retired boxing champion and "Dancing with the Stars" fancy footwork artist Floyd Mayweather Jr.

* The Bow Wow show, originally scheduled for Aug. 16 at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay, has been rescheduled to Nov. 3 Tickets for the original date will be honored on Nov. 3.

* Hometown model Sarah Larson, who dated superstar George Clooney for almost 12 months after they met at Moon nightclub in the Palms, where she was a cocktail server, partied with friends at Carey Hart's new Wasted Space nightclub in the Hard Rock resort casino. Still enjoying her single status, she danced with different admirers until after 2 a.m.

Friday night

* Comedy is king this weekend: Tonight Show host Jay Leno is in the middle of a tug-of-war between the Fox and ABC networks, which are both fighting to sign him when he leaves NBC next year. In the meantime, he’s sitting out the fray with his ongoing, every-now-and-again run of comedy concerts at the Mirage for two nights ... TV favorite Jerry Seinfeld plays up life’s absurdities with a two late-night gigs at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace ... Comedienne Wanda Sykes cracks the jokes and the whip at Planet Hollywood for two nights ... While E!'s Talk Soup host Joel McHale laughs it up at the Mandalay Bay theater.

* Music makes the world go round: Steely Dan rocks the Pearl theater at the Palms ... Country star Travis Tritt kicks off a three-day run of shows at the Orleans, while Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly, finds their way out for two nights at the Hilton ... Plus, Nas headlines at the House of Blues, and there’s a celebration of Elvis, with Jamie Aaron Kelley appearing with The Imperials at the Cannery ... For something completely free, the Romantics ooze the sounds of love at Santa Fe Station and the tickets are free.

* One of Latin music’s most respected rock and pop singer-songwriters, Julieta Venegas, makes "unplugged" acoustic musical magic at the Hard Rock. Simultaneously, out at the Hard Rock pool is a reggae-fest with Julian Marley, who follows his brother, Stephen Marley, from earlier this summer. Julian adds in some breezy jazz sounds to his organic fusion of reggae.

* The future stars of mixed martial arts show their stuff at the "Tuff-N-Uff" event in the Orleans Arena.

* One of tonight’s parties is thrown by hunky heartthrob Jason Lewis, from the Sex and the City movie, at Pure nightclub at Caesars Palace. The 37-year-old former carpenter from Newport Beach is still single after his breakup with actress Rosario Dawson ... The other "not-to-miss" celebration is at Tao nightclub, where actress Amber Heard hosts to celebrate her August Maxim magazine cover.

Saturday

* Rock fans will love the double-teaming of throaty Joe Cocker with the Steve Miller Band at the Orleans Arena -- and then UB40 kicks up the sand in an open-air show at Red Rock.

* Reality TV darling Lauren Conrad, from MTV's The Hills, celebrates the success of her new fashion clothing collection at Christian Audigier nightclub in TI. The blond bombshell was here just three weeks ago, appearing with Barbara Walters on The View's on-location shows.

* Sexy models wearing the most alluring of lingerie from Sophie B. strut their stuff in a showcase at the Prive nightclub in Planet Hollywood.

Sunday

*Long-gone but still fondly remembered: Piano prince Liberace’s legacy lives on with the annual Liberace Piano Competition for both amateur and professional pianists tickling the ivories in the hope of similar stardom. It starts at noon in the Community Lutheran Auditorium.

* The cameras are still turning at the notorious Rehab pool party at the Hard Rock for the new reality series -- and it's all followed up by the more outrageous, uniformed Sunday school party in Body English afterward.

Next week's tease:

While I’m away in Europe a number of Strip entertainers have agreed to play "guest columnist" for the next 10 blog days. Luxe Life will be in the capable hands of everybody from Lance Burton to the Fantasy Girls, from Frank Marino to Terry Fator and guests from the casts and crews of the Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia and Stomp Out Loud. Everyday, we’ll also have our "Meanwhile Back on the Strip" wrap-up of all the partying stars at our ultra-lounges, shows and nightclubs. It all kicks off Monday with the backstage secrets of the Beatles LOVE show by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage.
