Strip scribbles: Star sightings, New York-New York’s newest rock spot
By Robin Leach
* Hot new pop-rock sensation Katy Perry will officially open the new rock nightclub at the New York-New York resort casino on Labor Day weekend. She will perform live at ROK Vegas on Aug. 30. Her sultry single, "I Kissed A Girl," is now in the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the seventh consecutive week.
ROK’s opening on Aug. 29 will bring two firsts to the Strip's nightlife scene. ROK will feature the first-ever 360-degree video screen in a Las Vegas nightclub. From every angle, guests will be surrounded by concert footage, live club feeds, lasers and animation all chosen by a video jockey. Club-goers will revel in the “concert-like” setting as ROK’s resident DJ spins rock mash-ups choreographed in time with remarkable video imagery displayed above.
ROK also will introduce the advent of half bottle service to the VIP experience. In addition to full bottle service, guests will have the option of selecting from several premium brands in a half-bottle size. This will allow guests to have more choices available at their table without paying for the full bottle premium price. ROK’s VIP tables will feature handcrafted red banquettes with their own dance risers; built-in storage for personal belongings and custom tables that house ice, bottles and other items. World-famous interior designer Francois Frossard created ROK’s unique setting and is widely recognized for his designs in nightlife, including the hot Mansion and SET nightclubs in Miami.
* Superstar musician Prince turned up all over the Vegas nightclub scene -- flanked by a wall of security. He hit several nightspots, spending just about 30 minutes at each checking out the scene. Our star surveillance spies spotted him at the Hard Rock, Prive in Planet Hollywood, Christian Audigier at TI, and Pure in Caesars Palace.
* Sunset Tan's "Olly" girl, Holly Huddleston, partied at Prive in Planet Hollywood alongside The Real World Sydney's Kelly Anne until 3.30 a.m.

* British hip-hop star Estelle at The Bank performed a powerful two-song set to a packed dance floor and then joined America’s Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez, at a VIP table where the they sipped red bull and vodka. A superstar in Britain’s music community, Estelle has multiple Best Female Artist trophies from the UK’s Hip-Hop Awards and has a chart-topping hit in the States with “American Boy," which features Kanye West.
