As Catwoman, will Cher have claws in her contract?

British film director Christopher Nolan is set to stage his third Batman movie with actor Christian Bale -- and he wants our Caesars Palace headliner Cher to take the role of Catwoman. One of my London spies tells me reliably that the 62-year-old sexy singer’s business representatives are already in talks about filming in Vancouver early next year! A studio executive confirmed: “Cher is the director’s first choice. She’d be the exact opposite of the previous purring creations and this time would be portrayed as a vamp in her twilight years.”

Cher, if she accepts the multi-million dollar offer would step into the previous high heels and jumpsuit of Michele Pfeiffer and Halle Berry. She would play the whip-carrying cat burglar opposite superstar Johnny Depp, who has signed on as The Riddler.

The current Batman movie, The Dark Knight, has become the most successful of all to-date -– and Warner Bros. expects this summer’s blockbuster to rake in over a half-billion dollars at the box office. It’s also expected that the late actor Heath Ledger, who died from an accidental drug overdose and who played The Joker in this latest film will win an Oscar for his performance.

Cher’s schedule of live concerts at Caesars Palace for 2009 easily permits a shooting schedule to be set around them for her to meet the filming requirements up in Canada. The Oscar-winning actress was seen most recently in Stuck On You in 2003, and previously in Tea with Mussolini in 1999. Cher won her Academy Award in 1988 for Moonstruck and a Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Mask.
