Morning Call: Siegfried & Roy vow to lead Great Santa Run to victory and claim Guinness world record

Twelve months ago, Las Vegas fielded exactly 7,269 Santa-suited runners and walkers for our Great Santa Run to benefit our beloved Opportunity Village charity. It also was a battle against the Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, England, and an Irish country capital.
Each year a new competitive city has joined the fray to claim the Guinness world record -- and this year we’re competing against Tasmania, a province just off the coast of Australia. Come join our battle!
The Great Santa Run before the run.
Tomorrow morning, I will join master illusionists Siegfried & Roy, singing duo Zowie Bowie and our merry Mayor of Mirth Oscar Goodman at the Great Santa Run. The fun starts at 8 a.m. on the Fremont Street Experience stage as registration gets underway.
Jolly fellows Siegfried & Roy and Robin Leach.
Our hope is at least 10,000 Santas so that Vegas claims victory once and for all! At 10 a.m., Siegfried & Roy will lead the 1-mile Kris Kringle walk, and Roy has vowed to do the entire course unaided. He tells me he’s been working out strenuously to pull off yet another miracle.
Registration at the Great Santa Run is a sea of red and white.
Also at 10 a.m., the actual 5K run begins -- and we’ll have a full photo report right here at Vegas DeLuxe shortly after the festivities end.
