Inflation alert! Those 12 days of Christmas are a lot more expensive this holiday season

We’re happy that the gorgeous topless dancers of Crazy Girls at the Riviera have photo shot their sexy version of The Twelve Days of Christmas. However, we’re disappointed to discover that the cost of it all has jumped so much over the past 12 months.

Every year, the investment advisers at PNC Wealth Management calculate the cost of gift giving on this scale. They’ve just said it would have cost you $86,609 to buy everything in The Twelve Days of Christmas song this year -- that’s up more than $8,500, or nearly 10 percent, from last year.

The price tag includes everything from the single partridge in a pear tree to the 12 drummers drumming, purchased repeatedly as in the holiday classic carol. While the price of the whole package is up, some things are actually cheaper than last year.

Jim Dunigan of PNC Wealth Management says the price of five golden rings is down about 11 percent this year, and three French hens and six geese-a-laying also cost less. But increases in the cost of big items like eight maids-a-milking, 10 lords-a-leaping, 11 pipers piping and 12 drummers drumming would have taken a bite out of your Christmas gift-buying budget this year due to a general wage increase.
