Team USA returns for final pre-Olympic workouts

Just as 10 days of NBA Summer League with 21 teams ends this weekend, in comes Team USA in its final preparations and workouts before heading off to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics. The athletes arrive here Sunday and will be training at Valley High School through Thursday. Then on Friday, July 25, at Thomas & Mack, the team faces Canada in an exhibition game that is the only matchup where fans will be able to see them on a home court. They take off for Beijing and play their first game Aug. 10 against China, the host team.

Stars going for the gold include Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Jason Kidd, who won a gold medal in 2000, and Carmelo Anthony, who won a bronze medal in 2004. Also on the roster will be Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer, Michael Redd, Tayshaun Prince, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Jerry Colangelo is the managing director and Mike Krzyzewski is head coach. Expect to see their names in bold print as they turn up at the Palms and its restaurants and clubs all next week!

I'm told that Colangelo is very satisfied with the team’s construction and the players are all excited and together as a complete unit. They’re proud to be representing America and all want to win.
