Strip Scribbles: Mystere’s mystery guest: Michael Jackson

By Robin Leach

Michael Jackson, shown disguised while watching a UFC fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena earlier this year (that's him under the black hood), snuck into T.I. to catch a performance of Mystere.

* Pop-prince Michael Jackson took his three children and four other guests to a performance of Mystere by Cirque du Soleil at Treasure Island. He slid in seconds after the show began in the dark to remain unrecognized and took their seats just a few rows from the stage.

* Congratulations to Venetian-Palazzo chief Sheldon Adelson, who will celebrate his birthday this weekend as only a billionaire can and should.

Sheldon Adelson.

Sheldon Adelson.

He’s taking his three 747 aircrafts from Boston, New York and Vegas for a group of family, friends, high-rollers and business pals to his Macau Venetian, where they all have front-row seats for the first overseas Team USA basketball exhibition game pre-Olympics. Then it’s a huge blowout bash steps away from the arena in one of the ballrooms there!

* My friend Gary Lee Robbins at the new Retro Television Network, which will be broadcasting a live daily show from the Strip this fall, is a regular Vegas visitor. He’ll also do several live reports for his Unreliable Sources show and you can get a glimpse into his hi-jinks by clicking on this link.

Caesars is offering quite a deal for a night at the hotel and a date with Cher.

* Cher fans are in for a treat when she returns to her run of headline shows at Caesars Palace starting next Wednesday (Aug. 6). They’ll be able to take part in an ultimate lap of luxury experience with an incredible room and entertainment package designed around the diva’s show. Caesars rolls out the red carpet for fans with a one-night stay in a luxurious room, two VIP tickets in preferred seating to Cher, and two comped drinks at the performance -- all for just $627. So go sparkle and shine like a star yourself.

* Meantime, hope sluggish ticket sales due to the faltering economy aren’t the reason for two unusual cancellations at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay: both the Robin Thicke show, scheduled for Aug. 15, and the Eddy Grant show, scheduled for Aug. 28, have been cancelled. Ticket refunds will be made at point of purchase but sad no new makeup dates have been announced.

* Veteran actress Estelle Getty who died days ago will be truly missed. I filmed her a number of times for various TV shows and she always had more energy than all the crew! Our Luxe Life friend Larry Edwards who hosts at the Piranha Club on 4603 Paradise Road, told us she was a regular fan watching him perform at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. He told me she adored female impersonators.
