After 29 years downtown, the original Andre’s restaurant is set to close after the first of the year. Owner Andre Rochat confirmed his decision last night, saying, “I have been a chef for over 50 years -- it’s time for me to go fishing.”

Rochat’s Monte Carlo restaurant is being remodeled and is due to reopen in early January, at which time the downtown location will change over for only private banquets until it is sold. Rochat’s other restaurant, Alize at the Palms, remains open and is unaffected by the downtown decision.

Rochat made the surprise announcement in front of a large number of Vegas star chefs cooking at the 7th annual fundraiser for the Jean-Louis Palladin Foundation, named for the late Rio chef who died after a lengthy battle with cancer in November 2001.

As news of this Luxe Life exclusive spreads, it’s expected to shock city officials, the mayor, judges and attorneys who have been loyal, regular diners since June 1980.
