You know him as a comedy movie superstar and a blues player! In his home country of Canada, he’s known more for being an astute businessman who runs an ever-growing, multi-million-dollar liquor company. Not content with his Patron tequila fortunes north of the border, Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd now has his own line of diamond-filtered, totally pure Crystal Head vodka.
The funnyman launched his uniquely packaged vodka with a party here at the Hard Rock, then in a promo blitzkrieg, hit the Lee’s Discount Liquor store chain and local TV stations telling one and all that each bottle is an individual, hand-crafted glass replica of a human skull made in Italy.
While Dan was waiting for his interview segment at our Fox Channel 5, he was introduced to new country singer Derek Sholl, who spent three years as the opening, warm-up act for Jay Leno’s regular weekend appearances here at The Mirage. Derek played Dan his new CD Here, and the comedy actor was so impressed that he immediately taped a video blog praising Derek’s music. Dan was so impressed with the unique music that several people suggested they team up for a gig at the House of Blues!
You can check out Dan’s video blog for Derek at dereksholl.com. Derek, a former pro baseball player and model before launching his show-biz career, is on a 20-market, major city tour to promote his new album.
“Dan is my all-time comedy hero, and it was a total surprise we were booked at the TV studio at the same time,” Derek said. “I gave him a copy of my CD, then he listened to me perform in the studio and literally went overboard with his praises for it.”
