Morning Call: ‘Dancing With the Stars’ a spin-off for Lucci

The extra day between the judges’ voting and the viewers’ voting just heightened the tension on Dancing with the Stars -– more so than the Obama-McCain results, which is why ABC executives pushed the top-rated show back a day. Maybe they’ll have a special when Barack and Michelle dance into the White House now that John and Cindy are KO’d from that political show?

Tom Bergeron delivers the bad news.

Hannah Montana star Cody Linley was voted “safe” even though he danced with Edyta Sliwinska standing in for the recuperating Julianne Hough. The 20-year-old singer/dancer underwent two hours of surgery following her on-set collapse. She was diagnosed with endometriosis, and her doctor, Randy Harris, has now confirmed to People magazine that, in addition to removing her appendix, she had a cyst on her ovary removed along with scar tissue that had formed on her bladder and fallopian tubes.

Said Julianne: “I’m feeling phenomenal. I am still walking slow but I’m feeling good.” Dr. Harris added: “Julianne should be able to dance again in about another week. She was exhausted and a little dehydrated, so that’s why she needs to get a little more rest.” Julianne, a former Las Vegas Academy music student, reported that her boyfriend, country singer Chuck Wicks, remained at her bedside with her mother, Mariann, during the recovery and rest.

Julianne will help coach Cody, but his Monday dance will still be with Edyta for one more week. Julianne will return to sing “My Hallelujah Song” next Tuesday and then is set to host the Country Music Association Awards pre-show the following day. Then a week later she will return to dance with Cody -– if he and Edyta aren’t kicked off next week

Lance and Lacey, still safe to dance.

So, as anticipation and nerves built last night awaiting the vicious verdict, it came down to Susan Lucci or Lance Bass. In the final seconds, host Tom Bergeron announced that the daytime soap-opera queen was axed and going home! Sir Dance-a-Lot lives another day! How does that song go about "dwindling down to a precious few"?
