Paris faces Bond-age in Vegas sneak preview screenings
By Robin Leach
Paris Hilton displays her acting chops tonight in the screening of Repo! The Genetic Opera at Planet Hollywood.
Can sexy pop princess Paris Hilton outsizzle a screen hunk as their two new movies do head to head battle next week? Ironically, both flicks even get unique screenings here tonight on the Strip.
Paris is up first with co-stars Paul Sorvino and Spy Kids actress Alexa Vega with the premiere of her horror film Repo! The Genetic Opera at Planet Hollywood. The 007 spy thriller Quantum of Solace is then unveiled by talk show royal Larry King as part of the Nevada Cancer Institute’s 7th annual fundraising gala “Bond for the Cure” at The Mirage.

Your mission? Perhaps the most challenging ever issued in human history: Victory over cancer! That’s the “neither shaken nor stirred” invite for the private advance screening before its official opening next week. Quantum of Solace, the 22nd sequel of the legendary MI5 special agent, licensed to kill franchise, had its royal premiere in London last week with Princes William and Harry attending.

The high-octane film, loaded with action abundance, picks up where the last one ended, as the secret agent seeks revenge for the death of his love Vesper as he fights an environmentalist villain seeking control of the world’s water supply. (FYI: “Quantum of Solace” refers to the emotional void felt by males after the loss of a loved one, according to shrinks!)

Hunk stud-actor Daniel Craig, who has taken over for former Bonds Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore and Sean Connery, gets two girls this time around: British actress Gemma Arterton and Ukrainian-born supermodel Olga Kurylenko. She has already been blasted as a “Communist traitor” by the Soviet bloc countries because of the anti-Eastern Europe inferences in the film.

Nevada Cancer Institute’s fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction and is followed with a 7 p.m. gourmet dinner served up by the chefs of the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group. Peter Stremmel handles the 8:30 p.m. live auction, then Larry King, who will be MC for the night, unveils the special Quantum screening. Two secrets not to be shocked about: M, played by Dame Judi Dench, once again strips Bond of his 007 status, and not once in the film does he say the immortal words “Bond, James Bond!”
In the meantime, across the Strip, Paris’ rock opera musical Repo! gets its world premiere before its release this Friday in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas. You can view it here, but be warned that this has been rated R because of strong bloody violence, gore, language and some sexual and drug-related content.
Repo! also stars Anthony Stewart Head and singer Sarah Brightman, but they won’t be attending. Paris plays the role of Amber Sweet, the surgery-addicted daughter of Rotti Largo (played by Paul Sorvino), the dying president of a multi-billion-dollar biotech company solving organ failures. Sarah plays a born-blind opera singer given eyesight by his GeneCo company for one final performance before her eyes are repossessed. That’s just one of the stories, as Alex Vega plays a teenage girl with a rare blood disease who is held indoors by her father, who is the Repo Man. Both Paris and Paul, an accomplished operatic tenor, also sing in the film.
The red carpet for Paris and the other cast members and film’s producers starts at 8:30 p.m. After the film, there will be an 11 p.m. celebration party at Prive. Vegas DeLuxe will have first photos from the red carpet tomorrow morning, so be sure to click back here.
