It could have been the disaster that KO’d him, but Las Vegas regular Lance Bass didn’t miss a musical beat when his left shoe went flying on his second dance of the night on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars last night.

Lance and Lacey, seeming quite confident.

He and pro partner Lacey Schwimmer had scored their best total of the season with 28 out of a possible 30 for their first mambo. Then they returned in ’40s sailors outfits for their second dance, the jitterbug. Ironically, one of the judges earlier had instructed Lance in the art of barefoot dancing as a way to relax his stiff approach.

It sure came in handy because halfway through the routine, his left shoe came off! Lance kicked the right shoe loose and went on to grab 29 more points out of the possible 30 from the judges for a total score of 57 out of 60. That pretty much guarantees him sticking around another week.

Julianne returns with Cody.

Meantime, it was the night that our former Las Vegas Academy student Julianne Hough returned from surgery to dance again with Hannah Montana teen heartthrob Cody Linley. However, their reteaming didn’t spark so well, and they notched up a total of 46 out of 60 for their paso doble (22 out of 30) and a salsa (24 out of 30) they performed in hot GI ’40s outfits. They wound up in the bottom of the semifinals leader board with both actress-model Brooke Burke and Super Bowl champion Warren Sapp getting a total of 49 out of a possible 60.

Brooke Burke and Derek Hough.

For the record, Brooke’s jive maneuvers with partner Derek Hough gave her the couple’s worst score of the season with just 21 out of 30. They did better, though, on the salsa, scoring 28 out of 30. Warren’s mambo garnered 24 out of 30, and his jitterbug notched up 25 out of 30.

Viewers have a tough choice now for who gets axed from the show tonight -- and we’ll have that overnight decision and a recap right here tomorrow morning.
