Speidi’s runaway Mexico wedding leaves family in the dark

When Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt arrive here on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the Dec. 31 countdown at Christian Audigier nightclub in Treasure Island, they will be a newlywed Mr. and Mrs. The Hills couple secretly married last week, eloping to the Mexican millionaire playground of Cabo San Lucas.

The surprise wedding took place at the One & Only Palmilla Resort in Cabo owned by billionaire hotel magnate Sol Kerzner, who plans to build a duplicate of his Atlantis resort casino in the Bahamas here on the Strip alongside Circus Circus.

In his vows, Spencer called his newlywed “the light of my life.” As part of the nuptials, Spencer told Heidi, “I now feel complete.” Heidi admitted that she was in tears after the marriage, which she hid from her parents.

It was so secret that Heidi’s father and sister didn’t have a clue even when reporters started quizzing them about it yesterday. The blonde actress had always said she wanted a “fairytale princess religious wedding in a church,” so the family is baffled why she ran off to Mexico for the surprise marriage.

“I would be upset if she got married and didn’t invite me," her father Bill Montag told People magazine last night. “We will just have to have another wedding here.”

And sister Holly, who also appears on the popular MTV show, said she and their mother Darlene had failed to reach the newlyweds down in Cabo to confirm the ceremony.

Holly said, “We knew they were on vacation there but had no idea it was going to turn into a wedding. Everybody’s pretty upset because nobody knew what was going on. I’m really surprised because she always said she wanted a big church wedding. We talked about being each other’s maids of honor, but whatever makes her happy.

“Heidi is a big girl and whatever makes her happy I support. I am a little bit hurt I wasn’t there, but I want to hear what happened. We haven’t spoken yet, so we don’t know what went on.”

Even though Heidi hasn’t yet talked to her family with details about the elopement, she has confirmed the marriage exclusively for this week’s US Weekly.

Last year the couple broke up in December after eight months of dating, which culminated with him proposing with a diamond-platinum band set with a purple stone. Instead of an engagement, Heidi said she wanted “a relationship vacation.” They got back together in May during another Mexican holiday trip, where the couple said they studied Biblical passages about “honoring thy wife.”

Maybe Heidi can bring her family in with Spencer’s family for the New Year’s celebration on the Strip -- and re-create the wedding here at one of our lavish resort-hotel chapels.

Vegas DeLuxe will continue to monitor this developing story.
