Life in our valley isn’t always about fun and frivolity. We are an extraordinarily generous community of folks who give and support so magnanimously to a multitude of causes. Our favorite Alzheimers charity for the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute, under construction downtown, launched its new campaign “New Thinking about Thinking” with a Cartier jewelry, sponsored party on the Sunset Terrace at Wynn and hosted by Steve and Elaine Wynn.

The pioneering, talented and innovative women were picked for the indelible mark they have made on our community. They included philanthropist Janie Greenspun Gale, McCarran Airport’s deputy aviation director Rosemary Vassiliadis, our Southern Nevada Water Authority General Manager Pat Mulroy, Karen Coyne, chief of the city’s Deptartment of Detention and Enforcement; Barbara Buckley, executive director of Clark County Legal Services; and Marybel Batjer, VP of public policy and communications for Harrah’s Entertainment. The glass ceiling has certainly been broken through here!

Our fearless leader, Las Vegas Sun Editor Brian Greenspun, served as MC for the presentations with Cartier, which donated a $25,000 diamond necklace for the raffle -- with all proceeds going to the Brain Institute. Cartier also gave an engraved Pasha de Cartier pen to each honoree and showcased three vignettes with models wearing jewelry and dresses by Angel Sanchez. One Romance necklace was set with over 350 diamonds totaling 86 carats and worth $6 million, another 18-carat gold and diamond Panthere collection, and the final Inde Mysterieuse collection of pearl, amethysts and quartz! Camille Ruvo and Maureen Peckman from Keep Memory Alive were the co-hosts of the sparkling soiree!
