The King rules again, this time at the Riv, for star ceremony

By Robin Leach

The King! The Legend! The Man who really put Las Vegas on the map! Finally Elvis Presley, who sold more than 600 million singles and albums, will be honored by the Las Vegas Walk of Stars with the 27th star installation tomorrow (Friday) at the Riviera’s Le Bistro room. Only members of the media and invited guests will be permitted, however.

The Viva Las Vegas Elvis Presley Fan Club is sponsoring the Elvis Presley Star, which, its believed, will be installed later this year outside the Riviera on the Vegas Strip sidewalk. Presley’s military service in the late 1950s, coupled with the "British Invasion" of the 1960s, reduced his concert schedule, but in 1969 he returned to live concert appearances in Las Vegas. Throughout the 1970s, Elvis sold out the International and Hilton showroom more than 800 times until his death in 1977

Founded in 2004, the Viva Las Vegas Fan Club ‘s goal is to commemorate the memory and legacy of Elvis Presley in Las Vegas in the areas of Entertainment and Charity. The organization will fund and care for the official star -- a slab of 3-square-foot polished granite weighing 180 pounds and inlaid with Elvis Presley’s name.
