Everything from a passenger bus powered by waste vegetable oil to a solar-powered DJ booth will highlight three days of Earth Weekend at the Palms. Even poolside and nightlife entertainment has been planned in keeping with the green theme.

Jenna Morton, N9NE Group co-owner and director of community relations, said: “We can still have fun and help save the planet. Earth Weekend gives N9NE Group a chance to celebrate our passion for the environment and our community.”

Jacob Snow, Regional Transportation Commission general manager, says his bus will be powered by used vegetable oil provided by N9NE Steakhouse. Jacob commented: “This vehicle is a great example of the our progressive approach to going green.”

2 a.m.: A female partygoer takes a break from the New Year's Eve festivities to catch her breath and take in the breathtaking view from Moon, which is positioned on the 53rd floor of the Palms Fantasy tower.

At 11 a.m. today, the Grease Bus will go on display outside Palms and is wrapped in green-themed artwork created by local students. One hour later, the first solar-powered DJ booth will be unveiled at the Palms Pool & Bungalows. The DJ booth, built by Sustainable Waves, uses Sharp solar panels to capture power directly from the pool deck and Outback inverters to convert the sun’s energy into 110 volts of electricity to rock the pool.

Tonight, there’s a special conservation screening of Gashole in Brenden Theaters and an official green after-party in, appropriately, Rain, which has a 5.8 million pounds of carbon offset with 2,054 trees planted in the Mendocino National Forest, the equivalent of taking 518 cars off the road for a year! Other environmental movies being screened at Brenden Theaters are Good Inc. tomorrow and Everything’s Cool on Sunday.

The N9NE Group restaurants also will be offering an organic cocktail all weekend long. The Watermelon Slice Martini will be made from fresh organic watermelon, blue agave nectar, elderflower and Square One vodka!
