As disco queen Donna Summer sang so brilliantly, So let’s dance, the last dance, let’s dance, this last dance, tonight.

And that’s what it came down to on week seven of Season 8 of Dancing With the Stars for two celebrities as they faced elimination.

Don’t read any further if you plan on watching the tape-delayed West Coast broadcast of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars and want nothing spoiled beforehand! But come back after the show to compare notes!

First a dramatic medical bulletin: Since starting this season, Lawrence Taylor has lost 15 pounds over the seven weeks of fancy footwork, and Lil’ Kim has had two inches evaporate from her waistline. I take that as positive and good news, not bad! Exiled professionals Dmitry Chaplin and Lacey Schwimmer return to the show to dance to Natasha Bedingfield singing “Soulmate.”

The big focus is on the ever-tightening competition at the top, more so now that country singers and real-life couple Chuck Wicks and our hometown hottie Julianne Hough nailed a score of 27 with the judges last night for their sexy samba.

Will it be enough to keep them away from a three-way showdown with Ty Murray, who scored 24 with Vegas-born partner Chelsie Hightower, and Lawrence Taylor with Edyta Sliwinska, who scored 21. They both danced the waltz.

Now it’s all up to the unpredictable and unexpected viewer voting, and the first calls make Melissa Rycroft, Shawn Johnson and Chuck with Julianne safe for next week.

The misery minutes tick by on the last dance and become saddening seconds. But to prolong the agony, there’s a show within a show as four brand new professional dance teams compete against one another for another viewer vote to determine which one will join DWTS’ Season 9 lineup.

Lil’ Kim and Gilles Marini win sufficient votes to dance again next week as expected, leaving Ty and Lawrence as the final two, as we predicted. And also as we predicted, the axe falls on Lawrence, who is happy to be voted off.

That sets the stage for next week’s possible Sin City showdown between Vegas darlings Julianne and Chelsie! We’ll have the photos here tomorrow from all the dance floor action, and we’ll be back again next Monday.
