Rocker Sammy Hagar’s family and friends had a special surprise up their sleeves at last night’s official grand opening festivities for his flagship Cabo Wabo Cantina on the Strip. They pulled off a miracle by keeping Sammy’s friend country king Kenny Chesney a backstage secret and in hiding until it was time for him to stroll onstage in the middle of Sammy’s concert!

Kenny insisted that they duet together on “I Fall in Love Again,” and that propelled other musicians to join Sammy onstage for a jam session later. The music gods included Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Van Halen guitarist Michael Anthony and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul.

Sammy’s new Cabo Wabo Cantina is located at Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile, and our team of contributing photographers Scott Harrison of Retna and Brian Jones of Las Vegas News Bureau were on hand for the premiere party. Let the tequila flow!

Sammy talked with me just three hours before the opening, and we’ll have that interview posted here at Vegas DeLuxe next week.
