It took rodeo cowboy superstar Trevor Brazile all 10 days of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo at Thomas & Mack Center to secure his seventh record-tying all-around world champion title. Colorado rival Josh Peek had nipped at his heels throughout the run of their Las Vegas visit, but Josh failed to catch Trevor last night.

There was a sell-out crowd of 17,468 fans watching as Trevor finished the WNFR Las Vegas run with $346,790, beating Josh overall by $101,712. The achievement ties the most all-around championships in national rodeo history. The record was accomplished by legendary cowboy Ty Murray 11 years ago, and Ty turned up last night to watch Trevor’s achievement.

Trevor vowed that he would return next year in an attempt to surpass Ty in the record books. Said Ty, who is married to singer Jewel, in the official NFR report: “I’m thrilled for him. I’m happy to have inspired him. I’m not sad he’s caught up to me. It doesn’t diminish what I achieved in my time.”

Trevor had some near last-minute problems this year. He fell from fifth to as low as 14th in the season standings and failed to record a time in six of the 10 Las Vegas roping contests. But last night, the failure of Josh in steer wrestling sent Trevor safely into the winner’s circle for the prestigious, prized gold belt buckle.

Other world champions crowned last night: Jesse Kruse for saddle bronc riding; J.W. Harris won his second consecutive world title for bull riding; Brittany Pozzi won her second world title in the past three years for barrel racing; Bobby Mote won his third world title riding bareback; Lee Graves won his second world title in steer wrestling; and Nick Sartain and Kollin Von Ahn won their first team roping championship. As expected, Trevor won his world title for calf roping, and his 19-year-old brother-in-law Tuf Cooper finished in second with an $87,355 payday last night.
