Bail has been set, but our Sheriff Doug Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department still has to go behind bars! At 5 p.m. today, the jail cell doors will be slammed shut at the Opportunity Village Magical Forest.

Sheriff Doug has to remain there until sufficient donations to make bail have been raised -- all to benefit our beloved local charity Opportunity Village. It’s the only way he’ll be set free.

Hundreds of local businesses and community organizations have helped turn the Magical Forest into one of the longest-running holiday spectaculars in Las Vegas and is OV’s largest annual fundraiser. Opportunity Village serves people with intellectual disabilities to improve the quality of their lives and their families.

The Magical Forest 2009 fundraiser has a $1 million goal to provide for the most profoundly disabled adults in Project Pride -- People’s Right to Independence, Dignity and Equality.

The sheriff plans to stay behind bars until closing at 9 p.m., and he’ll be set free right by his police officers who will stand guard during the four-hour vigil.
