Are Fergie and Josh Duhamel expecting their first child?

Exactly a year ago, superstar pop singer Fergie was ducking my impertinent questions about her engagement and upcoming wedding to handsome Las Vegas star Josh Duhamel. The most I could get them to do was pose for their first set of kissy-huggy romantic photos.

Now 12 months later tonight, tomorrow and Thursday, I expect her to be dodging my new questions about her rumored pregnancy -- and their first baby!

Word from Hollywood is that the happy couple, who spent a quiet and romantic Christmas together, has already begun planning for the arrival of their expected new child. But I’m not expecting Fergie to confirm it during her Mandalay Bay concerts with the Black Eyed Peas tonight and tomorrow and then the New Year’s Eve festivities at LAX in the Luxor.

The Black Eyed Peas singer, who gave me a shout-out on her hit “Glamorous,” did show me her engagement ring this time last year at Lavo in the Palazzo but refused to give me an exact wedding date. However, “Duchess” Stacy Ann Ferguson and Josh promptly wed 10 days later in a much-earlier-than-expected ceremony in Malibu, Calif. The only thing she did tell me back then was that she definitely wanted to have children after all her BEP obligations.

The current pregnancy rumors picked up steam when she put on 20 pounds to play the role of a voluptuous prostitute in the new movie musical Nine, where she’s seen in provocatively ripped fishnet stockings, boots and a revealing, red-and-black laced-up corset and co-stars alongside Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren.

But now I’m learning from her inside circle of friends that she has revealed that Josh and she are planning to have a baby this New Year. They were seen this past holiday weekend in Los Angeles at maternity and baby shops and bought parenting books while looking at other infant necessities.

In addition to the concerts and LAX, Fergie will be co-hosting with Ryan Seacrest on Dick Clark’s 37th Annual Rockin’ New Year’s Eve countdown on ABC. She’s already pre-taped some of the cut-in segments from Aria and other CityCenter locations that make up the Las Vegas portion of the broadcast that will feature the Black Eyed Peas and Robin Thicke, who will be at the Bank in Bellagio on New Year’s Eve. Years before she was discovered, Fergie admits to have spent many New Year’s Eves here wandering the Strip as a rebellious youngster.

I send congratulations if she’s already pregnant and good wishes if they are still trying. Is there a better way to celebrate New Year’s?
