Morning Call Photo Gallery: Miss America wows sports world at Super Bowl

Everywhere 22-year-old Katie Stam went over the weekend in Tampa, Fla., for Super Bowl XLIII, she dazzled and wowed -- even the tough guys who hold the prized Super Bowl championship rings went weak in the knees! Miss America 2009 could have fielded her own championship team the way she had the NFL hunks and legends cooing over her!
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was on hand with last weekend’s Planet Hollywood pageant winner when former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver and three-time gold-ring Super Bowl winner Jerry Rice even went dancing with the beauty queen. Teammate and Hall of Famer Joe Montana, who won four Super Bowl rings with the 49ers, and sportscaster Jim Grey, who is a regular Vegas visitor during basketball season, couldn’t wait to meet her.
Also at the NFL “Taste of the Nation” charity events with Katie were NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who is president of NFL Charities, and Tony Dungy, former coach of the Super Bowl XLI champions the Indianapolis Colts. Identical twins Tiki and Ronde Barber also met with Katie. Ronde was part of the Super Bowl 37 champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Tiki never won a Super Bowl playing for the New York Giants (he retired at the end of the 2006 season and is now a TV sportscaster). Tiki gave Katie pointers at the microphone when she made her broadcasting debut for Yahoo! Sports from the Super Bowl parties.
Tomorrow, we’ll have Katie’s 50-yard line report of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ down-to-the wire victory over the Arizona Cardinals, making them the first team in NFL history to win six Super Bowls, and how she’s hoping to bring the “Taste of the NFL” to Las Vegas for the 2010 Miss America Pageant next January.
