Michael Phelps backs out of appearance at MGM Grand

Fourteen-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps pulled out of at the last moment this morning a planned meet and greet speaking engagement with IBM computer executives at the MGM Grand.

Basketball legend Magic Johnson was the last-minute replacement and flew in mid-morning on a commuter flight from Los Angeles to fulfill the commitment in the swimming champion's place.

Click HERE for our story this morning. I'm reliably told that the decision to cancel Michael's lucrative and highly paid commercial appearance was made late last night.

Although his marketing agents planned to keep him "flying low under the radar" and "away from anything deemed Vegas," it was solely on the grounds that an appearance in Las Vegas of any kind would harm his just-issued, three-month suspension by USA Swimming.
