Miss Indiana Katie Stam is crowned 2009 Miss America; Miss Georgia is first runner-up

Miss Indiana Katie Stam, 22, is crowned 2009 Miss America by 2008 Miss America Kirsten Haglund.

Miss Indiana Katie Stam was crowned 2009 Miss America at the live pageant hosted by Mario Lopez in Planet Hollywood's Theatre for the Performing Arts on the Las Vegas Strip. Katie is Indiana's first Miss America winner.

Miss Indiana Katie Stam won a scholarship in the fitness and lifestyle competition on the first night of preliminary competition in the 2009 Miss America Pageant.

The previous three Miss Americas -- 2008 Miss America Kirsten Haglund, 2007 Miss America Lauren Nelson and 2006 Miss America Jennifer Berry Gooden -- predicted that 22-year-old Katie would win before the competition!

Miss Georgia Chasity Hardman was first runner-up. Also winning scholarships for their runner-up placements were second runner-up Miss Iowa, third runner-up Miss New York and fourth runner-up Miss Florida.
