Hotel mogul Steve Wynn and his wife, Elaine, who have reportedly split up for a second time (click HERE for our story yesterday), have not yet spoken about the reasons behind the split -- and aren’t expected to, either. However, their closest friends have begun talking about the break-up.

“It wasn’t a surprise to us. We’d known about it for quite a while,” one of Steve’s closest pals told me last night. “It was a surprise the way it was kept so quiet the past several months. This had been going on for some five months now.

“The nice thing is that Elaine is in a good place over this. She’s at peace with the decisions now. They wanted to get through the opening of the new Encore and the party she hosted last weekend for his 67th birthday before it leaked out and went public.”

Another friend of the couple continued: “It was time then for it to be put out in the open. We don’t think anybody is going to rip anybody apart over this. They had become far more business partners with their hotels in the past couple of years than they were marriage partners. She had the greatest respect for his creative ideas, and he had the greatest respect for her ability to execute them. They were and are a great working team.

“Of course it’s upsetting, but they will still get along fine. They are both very mature people, and they will still be able to work alongside each other as they were doing anyway. Hopefully, it will all turn out to be very civilized and that they will still care for each other in their new lives.”
