Las Vegas residents, along with the world, winced right after the 2006 U.S. Open when Andre Agassi announced his retirement. Now our 39-year-old hometown hero is picking up the racquet again and ending his retirement.

Tomorrow, Andre will play for the Philadelphia Freedoms in World Team Tennis. League founder and friend Billie Jean King owns the Freedoms, and Andre will play for them in Philadelphia and then again July 17 in Newport Beach, Calif. Billie Jean flew to Las Vegas to meet him face-to-face to persuade him to play again.

In his amazing career, Andre is one of just six players to win all four Grand Slam titles; in all, he won eight singles championships. For a tennis fan like me, even I find the World Team Tennis format slightly confusing, but it sure is exciting. Go to www.wtt.com for more information.

Will Andre’s wife Steffi Graf, no tennis slouch herself, be next to sign up?!
