Back in the summer of 1969, rock ’n’ roll American-style kicked into high gear. Janis Joplin and her gravely voice reigned supreme out of San Francisco with her original band Big Brother and the Holding Company. The Grass Roots, one of the greatest rock groups of all time, were at the top of what would be a multi-decade career.

To celebrate the Fremont Street Experience’s salute to the Summer of ’69, not only did the two giant bands of yesteryear join forces downtown for two free concerts, but the massive Viva Vision canopy screen also played Don McLean’s American Pie.
To celebrate the official grand opening of Chester Bennington’s Club Tattoo in the Planet Hollywood Miracle Mile Shops, the Linkin Park singer brought along his new rock group. Chester launched the band Dead by Sunrise, and they started the day with an autograph session. Chester later emceed their introductory concert at the Steve Wyrick Theatre and hosted a midnight party in Prive at Planet Hollywood.
