Strip Scribbles: Anthony Cools, Marilyn Manson and Amazing Johnathan
By Robin Leach
Congratulations to comedic hypnotist Anthony Cools, who has just had his four-year run at the Paris extended for another four years! It started out as a limited engagement back in 2005, but the wild stage show proved so popular, it will now rack up an eight-year total with the new contract.
During the run, Anthony transformed part of the Paris lobby area into his own 220-seat showroom. A new 3-D movie introduction produced by his brother Jeffrey Cools and starring model Nikki Taylor kicks off the raw and uncensored interactive hypnosis show in which the audience becomes the stars. His signature stunts include R-rated acts that prompt sexual responses, so don’t say you haven’t been warned!
“During my show, I tap into the unspoken desires and subconscious naughtiness of willing volunteers,” said Anthony, who has been performing for more than 17 years. “The unpredictability of each guest makes each show new and fresh.”
The High End of Low.
*Tickets go on sale at noon this Friday for a rare Las Vegas concert by Marilyn Manson in The Rogue Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel on Aug. 21. Marilyn’s latest CD The High End of the Low was released in late May, and he was most recently linked to Evan Rachel Wood.
Amazing Johnathan onstage.
*Macabre magician Amazing Johnathan will return to Australia in September for shows in Melbourne and Sydney. Jonathan has been headlining as an eight-year resident Las Vegas show and currently performs at the Harmon Theater in the Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood. Last year, he won his third Best Comedy Magician at the International Magic Awards.
“The greatest thing about the show is that it’s different every single night,” Johnathan said. “The format of the show allows for endless improv, off-the-cuff comedy and dark magic tricks that keep it fresh and new, not only for myself and the performers, but also the audience members that come back and see it again and again. I’m thrilled to be bringing my new and improved show, direct from Las Vegas, down to my second home, Australia.”
*In all the hoopla of the 40th anniversary of man’s first walk on the moon yesterday was one little unknown fact. The astronauts of Apollo 12, 13 and 14 took microfilm copies of the Bible with them, and there’s quite a story to the history behind the one now on display and sale for $8,000 at Bauman’s Rare Books in the Palazzo. The rare 50-page segment of the World’s Smallest Bible, made to satisfy size and weight constraints of the space mission, is one of only 32 fragments certified by the astronaut who placed them on the moon.
It’s just 3/8 inches square, readable under magnification and housed in a custom blue velvet clamshell box. Included is a certificate of authenticity signed by Apollo pilot Edgar Mitchell and NASA’s Reverend Stout. Edgar placed 100 Bibles on the moon’s surface on Feb. 5, 1971, where they remained for 34 hours. Most copies were given to dignitaries as gifts, but this segment at Bauman’s is one of the very exclusive portions made available to the public.
*Rob Kirkpatrick, who penned the four-part 1969: The Year Everything Changed, will pose for photos and autograph the books Friday at John Van Hamersveld’s Hippie Nation Gallery & Records on Fremont Street Experience.
*Fremont Street Experience will host an educational forum with NASA astronaut Scott J. Kelly for Clark County students today on the 1st Street Stage area. Scott will conduct three one-hour sessions discussing his two space shuttle missions and hold a Q&A session. He has a NASA spacesuit and an Apollo 11 replica with him.
Michael Boychuck and Faye Resnick.
Drummer John Otto of Limp Bizkit and 107.9 FM radio personality MJ at Moon in the Palms.
Star surveillance
My good buddy Michael Boychuck, hair king to the stars, threw open the doors of his Color salon at Caesars Palace to top California interior designer Faye Resnick and gorgeous Erin Lascala to film their reality TV show pilot there. Baseball star Pete Rose, meantime, was at Michael’s Amp Salon in the Palms. … Elsewhere in the Palms, Limp Bizkit drummer and co-founder John Otto, band mate Leor Dimant and eight pals were at Moon, where Richard Marshall of the Carolina Panthers, Antawn Jamison of the Washington Wizards, actor-comedian Kevin Hart, ex-NFL player Warren Moon with 10 friends, Kelenna Azubuike of the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin were all partying at separate tables. … Antawn also was at Tao’s Worship party for shots of Patron and Perrier Jouet Rose champagne alongside UFC President Dana White. … Next door in Lavo, reigning champion Mark Ballas of Dancing With the Stars enjoyed calamari, chicken parmigiana, sea bass and the Kobe meatball for dinner accompanied by the pomegranate lemonade. … Grammy-winning superstar John Mayer was seated near a bachelorette party when he had dinner with three friends at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. John posed for photos and signed autographs on his way out for the ladies. Executive chef Eric Klein made a black truffle tart flambe especially for John. … Sports superstars enjoying their off-season vacation hit the Bank in the Bellagio to party into the pre-dawn hours. Enjoying the hotspot were Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey, New England Patriots’ Junior Seau, Denver Nuggets’ Kenyon Martin and kickboxing sensation Brad Morris.
Tonight’s tips
Comedian Dat Phan, the winner of the first Last Comic Standing on NBC, opens a six-night run headlining twice nightly at Harrah’s Improv with Nadine Rajabi and Jim McCue. … To Mat Kearney, it’s a “City of Black & White,” and he’ll perform tracks from that new album at Carey Hart’s Wasted Space in the Hard Rock Hotel, with proceeds going to City Mission of Las Vegas.
Lauren Tallman.
Tomorrow’s teases
High-powered business moguls aside, now senators and governors are caught in the crosshairs of illicit affairs and mistresses. Las Vegas author Lauren Tallman has written a book How to Not Get Caught. … We go inside a private fine-dining club at the Palazzo and reveal how you can enjoy its secrets!
