It’s rival pool parties and concerts in Sin City this weekend
By Robin Leach
It’s a double or nothing weekend in Las Vegas as rival headliners and competing 72-hour poolside parties challenge one another for bragging rights.
*Two three-day-long, outrageous, over-the-top parties kick-off today with Kandyland at the Palms and its Miss Sunset Tan beauty pageant, while over at the Luxor, it’s the Singles in Sin City blast.
*For indoor performances, the battle is on between Steven Tyler and Aerosmith with ZZ Top at MGM Grand going against Earth Wind & Fire and Chicago at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel.
*For outdoor poolside concerts, its rap master Snoop Dogg at the Palms Pool & Bungalows vs. R&B crooner Robin Thicke entertaining at the Luxor pool.
You’ll find all the details of the shows and concerts in our ROYAL ROBIN RUNDOWN in Strip Scribbles today, so this story focuses on the parties.
Robin Thicke attends the 2009 NHL Awards at the Palms.
The Kandyland extravaganza at the Palms is a mindblower. The entire main pool deck of the resort has been transformed for the 72 hours of nonstop partying complete with a giant Kandy castle and stages for live performances and DJs. Floating Kandy islands with performers, dancers and beautiful women will float in the center of the pools. Think of it as one giant open-air ultra lounge and nightclub with psychedelic decor and visuals.
It gets underway at noon today with a modern-day big top circus complete with burlesque performances and beach games. Then tonight, after his Blink-182 concert at The Joint, drummer Travis Barker will join his partner DJ AM as the titans of the turntable at the kick-off party in Rain with the Sunset Tan contestants. Tomorrow night for the Snoop Dogg concert with sexy new recording star Jenae as the opening act, ladies have been told the dress code is lingerie, while guys must wear all white!

The Kandy party weekend also includes the Miss Sunset Tan swimsuit pageant with $100,000 in prizes. All will be filmed for the debut episode of the new third season of E!’s Sunset Tan and for a Fox special. I will be one the judges, along with Sunset Tan owners Jeff Haman and Devin Bozz and other celebrity judges. We’ll give you the results and officiate at the crowning Sunday night in The Playboy Club to wrap up the three-day blast!
Meantime, Singles in Sin City festivities include entertainment by Chris Clouse, Jeremy Cornwall and after tonight’s welcome kick-off party, a speed dating session to pal up with potential partners for the weekend. It’s an entire weekend devoted to singles in a bid to find Mr. or Miss Right! Tomorrow is a daylong beach party hosted by Las Vegas’ own Playboy beauty and TV personality Denise Pernula, with four deejays spinning hits poolside. Brother Luke is the opening act for the three-hour nighttime concert that stars Robin Thicke.

Over the midnight hour, jumbo screens will be set up throughout LAX for singles to text one another for phone numbers to avoid the stress of direct contact! That’s a Textual Feeling complete with a pajama and lingerie all-night party. A four-hour Sunday Last Chance Brunch wraps up the weekend -- and hopefully with all the assistance, you’ll have found a special someone to share it with!
It will be a miracle if any of the partygoers even think about showing up for work Monday, but I promise you that somehow we’ll have all the details and photo coverage right here!
