At London’s 02 Arena tonight, pop princess Britney Spears begins an eight-night run of sell-out Circus Tour shows. Las Vegas magician Ed Alonzo, known as “The Misfit of Magic,” continues with his three high-speed illusions that feature a disappearing and reappearing Britney in quick costume changes as his magician’s assistant. They’ve even talked about adding a fourth illusion, as Britney and her audiences are enjoying the trickery so much.
Ed has written the most wonderful eight-page article -- “How I Ran Away With the Circus”-- in this month’s issue of Stan Allan’s Magic magazine headquartered here. He details how he cuts the superstar in three in a Zig-Zag box and the drama from the first call of interest Jan. 7 through to the near chaotic first night they performed together on tour March 3 in Louisiana.
Ed also reveals that he was originally supposed to teach only one dancer how to perform the tricks until Britney and her director insisted that he perform them with her. For any fan of magic or Britney’s concerts, it’s a fascinating must read! After other English concert dates, Britney continues her Circus Tour across Europe.
