In between her official pageant duties at the Nevada Cancer Institute, Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton found time to enjoy some of our desert kingdom delights. Yesterday, Kristen enjoyed brunch at Iron Chef Kerry Simon’s restaurant in Palms Place and then went to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville in the Flamingo for a photo shoot and autograph-signing session.
Today, she’ll kick off National Ice Cream Month by unveiling a “Red, White and Blue” banana split sundae at Serendipity 3 at the front Strip side of Caesars Palace. The late President Ronald Reagan formally pronounced July as National Ice Cream Month, and Kristen’s “Red White & Blue” dessert goes on sale tomorrow just in time for the Fourth of July. During her tour of the Nevada Cancer Institute, Kristen learned about the cancer treatment and research conducted at the state-of-the-art flagship facility.
She toured with Dr. Karen Milligan, assistant member, Breast Cancer Oncology Division, and director of The Survivorship Clinic at NVCI, and visited the library, boutique, meditation and exercise rooms, exam rooms and the infusion suite where patients were undergoing chemotherapy. Kristen took great interest in The Survivorship Clinic, which is the first clinic of its kind in Nevada, and discovered that she and Dr. Milligan are both from Wilmington, N.C., and both attended at Eastern Carolina University! Kristen also toured Dr. Sheri Holmen’s research laboratory.
