Zowie Bowie celebrates dream come true of performing at the Palms

It was April Fools’ Day 2006 when Zowie Bowie moved here from Phoenix with dreams of making it on the Strip as headliners. Three years later, the dream has come true -- well, within 100 yards of it!
In truth, though, George Maloof’s Palms is everything that the Strip represents -- and more. And it’s been an eight-year dream for Zowie Bowie to play the Palms since they came here on their first date!
Tonight, after nearly three years of performing at Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch, Zowie Bowie opens at the Palms. Hotel tycoon George has remodeled his Palapa Lounge and turned it into Zowie Bowie land, where they’ll be entertaining the celebrities who hang out, dine and perform there.
The sexy couple, who are engaged, checked out the lounge this week, and their faces lit up when they saw the progress. As you can see from our photos, it called for a celebratory kiss!
Zowie Bowie, aka Marley Taylor and Chris Phillips.
Said Chris Phillips: “The room will have a very retro classic feel to it while still being hip and contemporary. A new stage has been put in along with several new decor components. It really is a big step forward embracing live lounge music that made Vegas great.”
His better half, the gorgeous blonde bombshell Marley Taylor, added: “On our first date, we came to Vegas. We wound up at The Rio to see the Scintas, and as we drove out, we passed by the Palms. I told Chris that’s where we should perform one day. Now eight years later, we’re here.”
The talented twosome will perform two shows Fridays and Saturdays at 10 p.m. and midnight. They have a 13-piece orchestra for vintage Vegas numbers at the first show and a Top 40 hits show with a four-piece combo at midnight.
Zowie Bowie (Chris Phillips and Marley Taylor) are too sexy for that leopard print cushion.
“We want to keep the spirit of vintage Vegas alive,” Chris said. “We hope our midnight show will attract a lot of Strip stars, and they’ll be welcome to just jump up on stage and join us. I want the modern-day version of what they did in the good ol’ days.”
I’m happy to call them both good friends, and just as I was with them opening night at the Red Rock, I’ll be with them at their Palms opening tonight. Marley’s hair king Michael Boychuck, who has his Amp Salon there to provide hair and makeup services for her, has put together a celebrity table for the premiere.
Chris summed up: “George is like us. We all have the maverick spirit. I was a kid of 12 when I wanted to play Vegas. I think George was that young when he decided he wanted to own a casino. We’ve all got that special attitude and personality about making sure everybody has the best time when they are in our house! We’re going to have a whole lot of fun in our new home.”
