Miss America’s dream to meet the president at The White House comes true

Back in January when Katie Stam became the new 2009 Miss America at Planet Hollywood, she told me that she would eventually get to meet the new president. Her dream came true yesterday when she accompanied 53 special ambassadors to The White House to meet President Obama!
The ambassadors were showcasing the medical care being provided at Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the United States. President Obama met with a child from every state as part of “Champions Across America.” After spending time with the champions, the president invited them to play on the playground on the South Lawn. In addition to The White House visit, Katie and the champions also met with members of Congress during a luncheon on Capitol Hill, where Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, gave an inspirational talk.
“One of Miss America’s most important and most rewarding duties is to serve as the official goodwill ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network,” Katie said. “Being able to get to know each of these champions on a personal level has connected me forever to them and their families. I look forward to visiting their hospitals and helping them raise money throughout the year.”

Yesterday and again today, Katie will be with the USO in Washington celebrating the annual USO Awards events.
