Photo Gallery: Gordie Brown’s golden opening night at the Nugget
By Robin Leach
Comedy impressionist Gordie Brown opened his new two-year-run downtown at the Golden Nugget, and both stars and fans loved the premiere night. It marked his return to our city after being on tour as Celine Dion’s opening act the past eight months.
Our contributing photographer Erik Kabik was on the red carpet and front and center for Gordie’s entertaining performance and great show.
Flamingo headliner magician Nathan Burton was among the celebrities who joined the red carpet throng. Also there were singers Clint Holmes and his wife, Kelly Clinton; female impersonator Larry Edwards as Tina Turner; Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt with hubby Dennis Bono; veteran comedy singer Steve Rossi (wearing a striking white dinner jacket of what looked to be flying birds); former La Cage headliner Frank Marino; KVBC entertainment news anchor Alicia Jacobs with her adorable King Charles cocker spaniel Star; and manager Bernie Yuman.
The only thing to mar the glittering night was a troubled man who enjoyed himself too much and decided to boo when Gordie announced certain celebrity names from the stage as Gordie did the brilliant impersonations -- 40 in the span of 40 minutes at one point! Gordie sent text messages to friends after the show apologizing for the out-of-place behavior.
