PBR world champ Kody Lostroh gets $1.5 million, gold belt buckle, kiss

Colorado cowboy Kody Lostroh drives home tomorrow from Las Vegas with an additional $1.5 million in his wallet, plus the awesome Professional Bull Riders trophy now that he’s the new 2009 world champion.

Kody picked up the bonus $1 million Ford Truck Series check to add to his $500,000 in winnings for his 10 days in town. Kody beat all the bulls in the first seven rounds but lost his rope on the final Round 8 today. However, he had a sufficient lead to hold off North Carolina cowboy J.B. Mauney, who became the first rider in PBR’s 16-year history to vanquish all eight bulls.

J.B. had the consolation of winning the Las Vegas event but lost the overall eight-month chase for the championship by a little over 2 points! Auditors were brought in twice to reconcile the scoring tabulations to avoid any controversy.

It was a 1-2 win shared by Kody and J.B. this afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center and telecast live on NBC.
