After weeks of scraping the bottom of the board, singer Aaron Carter and his pro partner Karina Smirnoff were eliminated on last night’s Dancing With the Stars on ABC.
Our Flamingo headliner Donny Osmond was declared safe to go on to next week’s semifinals. It came down to the wire between our Las Vegas regular Kelly Osbourne and Aaron. Kelly won out and continues to next Monday’s show, but experts believe that it will be the end of the line for her.
If correct, that puts our 51-year-old Strip star in the final showdown against singer Mya and her partner Dmitry Chaplin and Playboy cover girl and centerfold model Joanna Krupa, who is paired with Las Vegas Academy graduate Derek Hough. Last night, Playboy king Hugh Hefner brought along his girlfriends Crystal Harris and twins Kristina and Karissa Shannon to root for Joanna.
Incidentally, Crystal will have her nude pictorial in the same December issue as Joanna, and she’ll be at the Playboy store on Saturday in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace for a meet-and-greet with fans from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A lot of the spotlight last night was focused on Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle and her performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables, which won her the runner-up spot on Britain’s Got Talent and turned her into a global phenomenon. It was her U.S. singing debut to promote her new CD I Dreamed a Dream, which drops on Thanksgiving. Canadian crooner Michael Buble sang twice on the show.

Meantime, the backstage was abuzz over the revelation yesterday that two-time DWTS pro winner Julianne Hough -- currently filming Burlesque with Cher and Christina Aguilera -- had ended her yearlong romance with country singer Chuck Wicks. Las Vegas Academy graduate and country singer Julianne and Chuck were paired on last season’s DWTS won by Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas.
Tonight could be an uncomfortable scene as Julianne and Chuck will both be at the Country Music Awards in Nashville. Julianne is a presenter and Chuck is handling red carpet reporting duties for Entertainment Tonight. They went public with their relationship a year ago at the CMAs.
Tom Bergeron and Julianne Hough approve of Chuck Wicks' dance moves.
Vegas DeLuxe will provide real-time Twitter reports next Monday as the semifinals unspool and then again with the next night’s results show and announcement of the three finalists. We also will have all the dance-floor action photos the next morning.
